Each quarter, the YMCA of Greenwich recognizes two of our employees as Cause Driven Leaders. A Cause Driven Leader is someone who effectively champions positive change by demonstrating initiative, inspiring their colleagues, and embodying the Y's core values. This quarter, we honor Marlin’s Diving Coach, Brooke Reinfeld, and Swim Instructor, Lucas Montesinos.

Brooke’s coaching style is a key reason many divers in the Marlins Diving Club develop a love for the sport and excel. Her unwavering dedication to the team extends beyond the pool deck. She is invested in instilling our youth with a strong moral compass. A prime example is when a diver was bullied at a meet, and his teammate, without hesitation, stood up for him. The defending teammate credited Brooke's influence: "[She] always tells us that we are a family first. We need to have each other's back and cheer each other on."

Lucas’s reliability and excellent communication skills make him an exemplary team player. His efforts strengthen our aquatic programs and create a safe, encouraging environment for all. Over the past year, he played a pivotal role in our Safety Around Water program. In partnership with Greenwich Public Schools, the 8-week course teaches children from our coastal community essential water safety skills. Additionally, he is working toward an Angelfish certification to provide water safety lessons to those with special needs.

As our community's youth grow, they need support, and the Y is committed to nurturing their potential. Our dedicated staff, including Brooke and Lucas, play a vital role in this mission. Through their mentorship and proactive engagement, they not only foster immediate growth but also shape the long-term character and values of the next generation. By modeling integrity, empathy, and resilience, they instill a sense of social responsibility in young people. This influence is essential for developing well-rounded individuals who are skilled, confident, compassionate, and socially aware, ultimately strengthening our community.
