Celebrating Al’s Commitment to Community

#ForSocialResponsibility #Volunteer #ForABetterUs

More than 175 years ago, George Williams gathered 11 friends to address their community's needs, laying the foundation for what would become the YMCA. Today, volunteers remain at the heart of our organization. At the YMCA of Greenwich, volunteers like Albert Brodbeck exemplify this legacy, embodying our founder's spirit of service.

This year, our Y honored one of our valued volunteers as the honoree of our 2024 Gala, Al Brodbeck. Known to most as Al, he has been an integral part of our Y family for over two decades. He faithfully visits our facility six days a week, participating in activities ranging from running and cycling to dominating the pickleball court. Over the years, he has formed a tight-knit relationship with fellow members, meeting weekly for breakfast.

Al's impact extends far beyond his fitness routine. For the past decade, Al has served on the YMCA of Greenwich's Board of Directors. His invaluable insights and guidance have helped steer our Y toward continued growth and success. He played a pivotal role in facilitating ongoing contributions from Morgan Stanley by introducing the Neighborhood Assistance Act to a fellow board member. Al also volunteers his time and expertise for our Membership & Programs Committee, ensuring that our offerings effectively meet the needs of our members and program participants.

Beyond his roles at the Y, Al is a respected Insurance Agent and family man, residing in Stamford, Connecticut, with his wife, Barbara. They have three children: Peter, Amanda, and Alexander. All of whom have earned their lifeguard certifications at the Y.

Al's contributions highlight the transformative power of volunteerism and community engagement. Whether through his board leadership, committee involvement, or daily presence at the Y, Al exemplifies how one individual can profoundly impact a community. His passion for the Y and belief in our mission serves as an inspiration to us all.

When you volunteer with the Y, you become part of something larger than yourself. It's a journey where you discover new connections, purpose, and opportunities to make a meaningful difference in your community. Whether coaching youth sports, leading classes, or guiding strategic decisions, your contribution strengthens our ability to serve and support those who need it most.
