Nurturing Young Minds, One Path of Development at a Time
A New Early Learning Center at the YMCA of Greenwich Brings Fresh Opportunities for Families
At the YMCA of Greenwich, we’ve always believed in supporting young learners—not just academically, but socially and emotionally, too. That belief is taking on new life this fall with the opening of our new state-licensed Early Learning Center, a program designed to help children grow, thrive, and build the foundation for a bright future.
Rooted in the Y’s core values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility, the Early Learning Center is all about giving our youngest community members the best possible start. By embracing a true “village” model, we’ll be working hand-in-hand with parents and local partners to ensure every child feels supported—no matter their background or ability.
Serving Ages 6 Months to 5 Years
This new program will welcome children as young as 6 months and up to 5 years old. There will be two age-specific tracks: one for infants and toddlers (6 months to 3 years), and one for preschoolers (ages 3 to 5). The program will follow the Greenwich Public School calendar, running from September 3, 2025, through June 26, 2026, with hours from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday—plus extended care options to help meet the needs of working families.
“We are thrilled to be able to offer a high-quality, affordable childcare option for families in this community,” says Kelley Gordon-Minott, the Y’s Senior Director of Youth Development. “We all know the early years are crucial. At the Y, we’re committed to giving every child access to a nurturing, enriching environment where they can build a strong foundation—regardless of income, ability, or background.”
Play-Based, Child-Centered Learning
Each child has their own way of growing and learning. At the Early Learning Center, our approach is hands-on and play-based, encouraging independence, curiosity, and creativity. Our experienced teachers act as guides, observing each child closely and shaping learning experiences around their individual needs.
Through active play and discovery, children build key skills in communication, critical thinking, and collaboration—skills that will serve them well in school and life.
A Legacy of Care, Renewed
Some families in our community may remember the Y’s former Early Learning Center program, once located at St. Roch Church. After its closure in 2020, the Y remained committed to helping families transition to new care options. Now, after listening, learning, and planning, we’re ready to bring early childhood education back—this time, right at home in our main facility, which is being updated to meet the needs of the new program during our annual August shutdown.
Children enrolled in the program will also enjoy access to the Y’s spacious indoor and outdoor areas, expanding their world of exploration and play.
Open to All Families
We want every family to feel welcome. That’s why we offer financial assistance based on individual need, and discounts for YMCA of Greenwich members. We understand how important it is for parents to feel confident in the care their children are receiving—and we’re here to provide that peace of mind.
“As a mom, I know how hard it can be to leave your child in someone else’s care,” Gordon-Minott adds. “What we’re building is more than just a program—it’s a place where children feel safe, loved, and excited to learn, and where parents feel supported every step of the way.”
