Strengthening Community Through Partnerships and Resources
Since its founding in 1916, the YMCA of Greenwich has served as a pillar in our community. For more than a century, we have worked to promote youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility—goals we could not achieve alone. The Y’s role as a trusted community partner is made possible thanks to the generosity, expertise, and collaboration of local organizations and businesses who share our mission to strengthen Greenwich together.
Community Resources
When we work together, our entire community grows stronger. The YMCA of Greenwich is proud to partner with organizations that provide resources, support, and enrichment opportunities to our members and neighbors. These collaborations extend the Y’s reach and ensure that vital services are available to all. Here are a few of the resources available to our members thanks to our community partners:
-
Jewish Family Services (JFS): Offering individual, couples, and family counseling, as well as group counseling for children and adults (ages 6 through older adulthood). Sessions are available in a private space at the YMCA—no membership required. JFS accepts all major insurance plans, making mental health support more accessible to our community.
-
Super Power Mentors: Pairing students (ages 10 through college and beyond) with mentors who share similar experiences and interests. This program empowers students with learning differences by teaching self-advocacy, accountability, and real-world problem-solving skills. YMCA families receive a discounted rate, helping to build confidence, resilience, and meaningful connections.
-
Literacy Volunteers at Family Centers: Providing free English learning classes and literacy support for adults and families. Classes also include digital literacy training, work readiness support, and access to career pathways. Parents and children have the option to learn together in evening classes, making this a truly family-focused program.
Community Partnerships
The YMCA’s community partnerships expand our impact and strengthen the fabric of Greenwich. Together, we are making lasting change through programs that address education, health, employment, and inclusion, including:
-
United Way Reading Champions: Volunteers work with children in our after-school program to build literacy skills and confidence.
-
Abilis Pathway to Employment: Providing skills training and internships at the YMCA for individuals with special needs, helping them prepare for the workforce.
-
Parkinson’s Body & Mind Program: Offering specialized exercise classes and support groups designed to improve quality of life for individuals living with Parkinson’s disease.
-
Waterside School: Partnering with the Y to provide free progressive swim lessons, ensuring all children have access to lifesaving water safety instruction.
-
Neighbor to Neighbor: Supplying backpacks and school supplies to children in our Running Start program, helping them begin the school year prepared for success.
-
Greenwich Public Schools: Collaborating on resource sharing for families, while also bringing 400 sixth graders to the YMCA annually for health evaluations and free swim lessons.
Why It Matters
These partnerships go far beyond a yoga class or a game of pickup basketball. They touch on mental health, literacy, employment, safety, and youth development, addressing some of the most important needs in our community. By working together, we ensure that everyone feels welcomed, supported, and empowered to thrive.
