Celebrating Character, Leadership, and Excellence in Competitive Aquatics

At the YMCA, success in competitive aquatics is about more than scores or results—it’s about who our athletes become through the journey. That’s why we’re proud to continue our Triple-Impact Competitor® of the Month recognition, celebrating athletes who demonstrate outstanding character, leadership, and dedication both in and out of the water.

Each month, our competitive aquatics teams recognize an athlete who makes a meaningful impact in three key ways: by improving themselves, uplifting their teammates, and honoring the sport they love.

This April, we are proud to recognize Kate Chesley from the Marlins Swim Team as our Triple-Impact Competitor® of the Month.

A YMCA National Finalist and Junior National Qualifier, Kate’s accomplishments in the pool are a testament to her dedication, discipline, and talent. She consistently sets a high standard for practice intensity and meet performance, pushing herself—and inspiring those around her—to strive for excellence.

Beyond her achievements, Kate serves as a role model for younger athletes on the team. Her commitment to hard work and continuous improvement demonstrates what it means to lead by example. Younger swimmers look up to her not only for her success, but for her integrity, determination, and positive attitude.

Kate’s impact extends far beyond her own performance. She fosters a supportive and encouraging team environment, cheering on her teammates and celebrating their successes. Her enthusiasm and encouragement help create a culture where every swimmer feels valued, motivated, and confident.

Most importantly, Kate embodies outstanding sportsmanship both in and out of the water. She represents the Marlins Swim Team and the YMCA of Greenwich with respect, humility, and grace—honoring her competitors, coaches, teammates, and the sport itself.

Through her dedication and character, Kate makes a lasting impact on herself, her teammates, and the broader swimming community.

What Is a Triple-Impact Competitor®?

The Triple-Impact Competitor® model, developed by the Positive Coaching Alliance, encourages athletes to grow not just as competitors, but as individuals. It emphasizes effort, mindset, and the positive influence athletes have on others.

A Triple-Impact Competitor®:

  • Improves themselves through dedication, resilience, and a commitment to learning

  • Elevates teammates by leading with encouragement, empathy, and positivity

  • Honors the game through respect, integrity, and sportsmanship

These are the qualities that define not only great athletes, but strong leaders in life.

More Than an Award

The Triple-Impact Competitor® of the Month is more than recognition—it’s a celebration of the values that define the YMCA. Athletes like Grayson show us that true success is measured by the impact we have on others and the character we build along the way.

Congratulations, Grayson! Thank you for your dedication, leadership, and for showing what it truly means to be a Triple-Impact Competitor®.
